Smart Film, also referred to as switchable film, is a state-of-the-art PDLC (Polymer Dispersed Liquid Crystal) film that allows the user to control the opacity of the film by applying electricity. Users can control the film through a variety of switches. Smart film can be controlled by temperature, light, timer, remote control, dimmer and can also be operated through a users smart phone or tablet when connected to a home automation system

How Does Smart Film Work?

When Smart Films are not powered, the liquid crystals in the film are dispersed, causing the film to become opaque. When power is applied to the film, the liquid crystals "line up" and make the film transparent. Smart Film can be applied directly onto existing windows and offers unparalleled control of light, UV, and infrared and offers functions such as security, privacy and advertising.

Smart Film liquid crystals line up when powered, which turns the Smart Film Transparent.
